5 May 2007 - Saturday :: Sweet and Salty Tau Sar Piah
Saturday, May 05, 2007
"The Original, The Only Outlet" Tau Sar Piah is located at Balestier Road. Not sure if anyone has tried this yet, but whenever iam there, there always be a queue. No doubt can you find no queue or no one buying. I wonder how many do they have to make? Or what is their daily sales? They open till about late afternoon, wonder how many hours they have to make and yet able to earn from just making piahs???
Iam not a fan of tau sar piah actually but a lot of people has said that this place has the nicest tau sar piah. Is it the crispiness, the sweetness or saltiness of the piahs? You can find the old, young and the middle aged Sporean queuing, buying for families, friends etc.
I find the sweet has tasted salty and the salty, more salty. I was able to tell the difference between the 2 before , but now, the taste seems to be fused together. Each cost $0.50, not sure if it's the usual rate of piahs, i find it reasonable enough.
If you are in for some sweet or salty tau sar piah, head down to this old shop, tucked at the corner of the street of shops. You can find workers hand-making each of this tau sar piah non-stop at the back of the shop, where the oven will churn out trays of hot piping piahs.
** Best to eat it while it's hot!!
